Homemade Valentine's Day Gift Ideas
It’s that time of year again where everything in the shops begin to turn pink, red and sparkly, and chocolates, flowers and teddy bears appear in abundance! While it’s lovely to buy a loved one a pre-made gift for Valentine's day, nothing says “I love you” quite like something homemade.
Here are some ideas and tips to help keep it homemade this Valentine's day.
Keep it simple
If you want to make something for your loved one, but are short on time, a red velvet cupcake is always a favourite (click here to see Fiso's recipe for red velvet cupcakes). Top the cupcakes off with cream cheese frosting, and finish them with heart shaped sprinkles, or whatever takes your fancy!
If you're feeling more adventurous, why not make someone's day with a cupcake bouquet? (unintentional rhyming...) With just an open star nozzle (our favourite is the 1M tip) you can create beautiful floral swirls on the tops of cupcakes. Then all you need is a vase (or jar) a polystyrene ball, toothpicks and some tissue paper for decoration, and you have your own edible flower arrangement!
Have some fun with the kids
If they want to make gifts for mum or dad, why not help them make sugar cookies? Heart shaped cookies covered in icing and sprinkles, sandwich cut out biscuits filled with jam, and even cake pops (or an easier alternative for younger children: strawberries on sticks, dipped in chocolate or candy melts!) are sure to entertain the children, and make mum or dad's day!
Sometimes the old clichés are the best
When in doubt, you can never go wrong with a tray of homemade chocolate truffles. These 3-ingredient treats are quick and easy to make, and can be endlessly customised. Add flavourings, experiment with different types of chocolate, and of course the toppings!
