Vegan Chocolate Cake Recipe (With Chocolate Fudge Frosting)

Veganuary may be over, but for some of us here at The Cake Decorating Shop, it's an all-year-round affair! However, whether you're vegan or not, we're sure you'll love Fiso's delicious chocolate cake recipe!

Vegan chocolate cake (with chocolate fudge frosting)


For the chocolate cake:

200g plain flour

200g Sugar

35g cocoa powder

1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

1/2 tsp salt

240ml water

80ml oil

1 tbsp cider vinegar

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the frosting:

125g dairy free spread

125g dark chocolate (dairy free)

250g icing sugar

2-3 tbsps plant milk (we use soy, but any will work)


For the chocolate cake:

1. Grease two 7" tins, and pre-heat oven to 150°c.

2. In a bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, bicarbonate of soda and salt, mix well.

3. In a jug, combine the water, oil, cider vinegar and vanilla extract.

4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry, and mix well.

5. divide batter between the prepared pans.

6. Bake at 150°c for about 35mins, or until a skewer comes out clean.

7. Turn cakes out onto wire racks and allow to cool completely.

For the frosting:

1. Melt together the chocolate and vegan spread over a low heat

2. Beat together with icing sugar.

3. Add milk until it is smooth and easily spreadable.

4. Spread evenly onto the first sponge, and then sandwich together.
